IMH has been applauded by GPs from across the EU and UK following a free two day course designed to help practitioners pass the Induction & Refresher (I&R) Scheme pathway in the quickest possible way.
On the 28th and 29th January, IMH invited GP Returners and EU-qualified GPs to attend the course which would prepare delegates for various aspects of the pathway including Situational Judgement Tests, Clinical Assessments and a Simulated Surgery exam.
The course was convened by Dr Tariq Hussain (Associate Dean), Peter Milburn (GP Programme Director) and Dr Mayur Vibhuti (Director of Medical Education at IMH).
The first day of the course provided an overview of the NHS structure and the I&R pathway, with a focus on the MCQ exam. The second day explored the Simulated Surgery assessment and gave delegates the opportunity to role-play with trained actors and receive feedback on their consultations.
The course was well-attended, with GPs visiting from countries across the EU. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with 88% of delegates rating the course as ‘excellent’ and 100% of attendees saying they would recommend the course to others.
One participant said:
“The course was amazingly helpful. Before I had only a vague notion of what the I&R Scheme was and what the MCQ and SS were all about. I had no clear idea of what was expected of me, what the exam would focus on, or even how or what to study. The course not only provided clear answers to all these questions in an easy to understand manner, which greatly reduced my anxiety regarding the tests, but also gave me specific and actionable strategies and tips to increase the chances of success at the exam. I now feel much more capable of adequately preparing for the exam, and have confidence in my ability to get a good result.”
“Wonderful course, very comprehensive and finally a live GP who answers all our questions about UK practice. It was important to find out about the local culture and way of doing things. I liked that we had a quick overview of the NHS system, and moreover, that we got a handout for later studying.
“I’m really glad we went over all aspects of the exams, the division for first and second day was great. I loved the opportunity to practice the simulated surgery with the actors and teachers. So thanks for the great weekend. All my questions were answered.”
The course was held in collaboration with HEKSS, Medway and Partners CEPN and Canterbury Christchurch University.
